To upper (main chalet) parking lot: From I-35 North or South take Exit 249. If you’re heading north, take a hard right onto West Skyline Parkway. Heading south, you’ll need to cross the Interstate overpass (heading toward McDonald’s) to reach the parkway. At the intersection of West Skyline Parkway and Mountain Drive, turn left. Follow signs to the Alpine Slide. The “Candy Land” trail starts in that lot. You can also park at the base of the lift. See the large construction spot at the base of the ski runs on the Google map linked above.d
Terrain range and difficulty
About 6 miles of trail – all downhill – more every day. From beginner level to double black diamond. Even a skills park. The old single track is gone. Don’t come to Spirit looking to ride cross-country.
A lot has changed at Spirit Mountain over the years. Once renowned for it’s super-technical MNSCS race the “Powder Monkey” – a moment of silence please -. Spirit has dramatically changed course. A number of amazing new lift-served downhill trails (with a total of 9 being targeted) along with the Alpine Slide and Zip line have rendered the old trails all but unusable. But, oh, the new possibilities! Gravity-fed mountain biking was a long time coming and we are thrilled to finally have it (kudos to IMBA and COGGS!) ! There are also long term plans to bring back the cross-country single track…exactly where on the property is still undecided.
Here is what you can expect at Spirit:
Lots of air. Lots of speed. Lots of fun. And Spirit is expanding and improving every day! There is now a skills course for beginning down hillers to sharpen their skills. A full scale dirt jump pump track is now open. And a few legitimate double black diamond DH runs await.
